Vote for Puerto Princesa Underground River – New 7 Wonders of Nature

From an initial list of over 400 locations around the world, The Puerto Princesa Underground River in Palawan is the lone finalist from the Philippines and now counts among the top 14 of the 28 Official Finalist candidates selected by a panel of international experts from a list of 77 contenders via the first round of global voting from 2007-2010. The official declaration of the N7WN will be on 11 November 2011.

The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River national Park is located about 50 km north of the city of Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines. It features a limestone karst mountain landscape with an 8.2km navigable underground river. A distinguishing feature of the river is that it winds through a cave before flowing directly into the South China Sea. It includes major formations of stalactites and stalagmites, and several large chambers. The lower portion of the river is subject to tidal influences. The underground river is reputed to be the world’s longest. At the mouth of the cave, a clear lagoon is framed y ancient trees growing right to the water’s age. Monkeys, large monitor lizards, and squirrels find their niche on the beach near the cave.
